so true!!! i think all good, sincere authors spend lots of time thinking about their work and really put their characters in moral quandaries, exploring the gray areas of life.

Oh, I disagree. In my experience there is a division of labor in a story, and the less thinking the writer does, the more work is required from the reader. Writing a smooth story that carries the reader effortlessly along is very hard work.
That is officially my new favorite quote.
