Good article writing tips
Good article writing tips
Article writing is an art as well as a science.
It is a must for every article writer to understand the norms of article writing.
Article writing is done for various purposes: for newspapers, the web, magazines etc.
A writer needs to know how to write good articles depending on where the articles have to be published; article writing tips that you studied in school are not really going to help you out here.
Times have changed and so has the art of writing.
Whether you are writing articles for a newspaper or a website, you don’t need to restrict yourself to being formal; in this case, just follow these tips and start writing good article straight away:
- 1. Be Precise
Precision is the foremost element that your articles should have. Your articles need to be precise and to the point, especially when you are writing for the web. The world has become a faster place and people don’t have time to read filling lines. An average internet user spends around 6 seconds on a website, and if your article confuses readers or doesn’t interest them, they will immediately leave. You can only make sure that your user is satisfied by providing him articles that are precise.
- 2. Use Idioms and Quotations
Have you ever though why people love visiting blogs when websites like Wikipedia and WiseGeek exist? The answer to this is simple – people love to know what others have experienced, and it makes them feel good to be able to interact with someone. Blogging has opened doors for readers to read and talk to the writer about a particular topic. So, use examples of yourself or others while writing articles. Also, use idioms and quotations to make your articles more compelling.
- 3. Be Witty
As mentioned earlier, times have changed and you don’t really need to stick to the formal way of writing articles today. Bloggers especially should make adding the element of wittiness to their articles a habit. Readers find it fun to read articles that are witty in nature and not boring.
- 4. Use Short Sentences
There are two major reasons as to why a blogger should use short sentences: for search engine optimization purposes and for keeping things clearer for the reader. Longer sentences were considered to be an art in the olden days, but today they’re not. Long sentences can make users confused and, believe it or not, they won’t spare an hour to read your article unless you are a celebrity.
- 5. Never Use Incomplete Sentences
Incomplete sentences are the ones that are referring to the subject of the previous sentence. This might be good when you are writing for a newspaper and the like, but for web articles, it is not a positive attribute. Each and every sentence of yours should be complete in context so that when a user reads one particular sentence on search engine listings, he will know what your blog is about.
These tips are not specifically for web writing, but they can be used for article writing for any media. Follow them and become a successful writer!
